The Rolex Air King series watch was first developed by Rolex's founder Hans Wilsdorf, as a tribute to the large number of fighter pilots who used the Rolex watch during the Battle of Britain. After WW2, a new range of watches was introduced but proved not to be popular. Only the Air King survived and was upgraded with an automatic movement and remained in the Rolex catalogue as the least expensive gent's Oyster Perpetual.
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watch was first introduced in 1961 but was fairly unpopular and were eventually replaced by the bigger Daytona featuring a self winding Zenith movement under the name Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph. In 2000, Rolex replaced the Zenith movement with a 3 register chronograph movement entirely of its own design. It is now gebnerally regarded as one of the most desirable and collectable watch in the Rolex range.
The Rolex Datejust watch was first introduced in 1945 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Wilsdorf & Davis. The Rolex Datejust watch were the first to feature a date display visible through a magnifying cyclops lens.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss watch is a highly collectable model introduced by Rolex in 1956 and specifically designed as an antimagnetic watch for those who worked in power plants, medical facilities and research labs. It was discontinued in 1988 but brought back in 2007 with the model number 116400. There are currently three versions - white or black dial with a standard sapphire crystal and the GV (Glace Verte) or "Anniversary" model with a black dial of a slightly different design and a green tinted sapphire crystal. The GV is the only Rolex watch with a tinted crystal.
